The Guardian summarizes a contemporary genre of “cyber-sceptic” literature, such as Sherry Turkle’s “Alone Together”, “The Shallows” by Nicholas Carr, “The Net Delusion” by Evgeny Morozov, and others – and also presents some critique of that critique.

As we are struggling to conceptualize the personal and social consequences of the so-called “social media”, it is no surprise there is an abundance of perspectives. And whether we subscribe to certain arguments or not, they all help shaping the common understanding of the challenges of this latest iteration of social life.

I'm Sebastian, Sociologist and Interaction Designer. This journal is mostly about bringing together social science and design for inclusive, privacy-focused, and sustainable "human-first" digital strategies. I also tend to a "digital garden" with carefully curated resources.

My occasionally sent email newsletter has all of the above, and there is of course also an RSS feed or my Mastodon/Fediverse profile.
