Simplicity is about staying simple.
Who, if not John Maeda would be a person to quote on that. In this little experiment, he creates a comparison timeline between Google and Yahoo search – the former evolving into ever more simplicity while the latter grows ever more complex.
This is maybe a bit like comparing apples and pears, as one was founded as a search engine and the other as an index (more like a traditional phone book; it also was created at an earlier stage of the web’s evolution). Still, there is truth in the statement that
Which is why in 2005 we “google” things on the Web more often than we “yahoo!” things
No matter the reason, simplicity often wins.
